Carpathian Forest played this year, 2006. I seriously doubt they'll be playing next year in 2007 as well.

Closest would be LA for me, but I'd sitll have to fly there, deal with hotel, and all that jazz. I prefer this over LA in a heartbeat.

Oh hell yeah. I won't be able to make this trip again for at least 2 years. I could scrape together hotel and food/spending cash, but almost $1000 for plane tickets is a killer.

Dude trust me its only through really hard work from a few dedicated individuals that anyone visits London, give Arcane some time and I'm sure they'll start bringing stuff your way

As for Inferno, there are 8 bands I want to see, therefore worth the £80 I payed for a ticket and I'm sure that I'll come home having enjoyed a few more bands on top of that.

As for waken, I'd love to go but being anti-social and alergic to alcahol will dilute the experience for me, then again my friends go for £70 inc. flights each year and I like a few Power Metal bands, indeed this year there are alrady 10 bands I wnat to see so I may well scrape together the cash for it

On a different point, why does everyone Hate Wacken??? I know that there are loads of people, I personally only watch about 5 to 10 bands a year at Wacken. Most of the time I'm getting drunk with the people I have meet from all over the world in the beer garden, and the only time you all get together is at Wacken. So I would probably still go if there was only one good band playing. Buy Hey, it's horses for courses and not for everyone. The same as Inferno is not for everyone, but who would want 2 Wacken type festivals, if you don't want to go, then don't!

I used to dislike it...then i actually went It's easy for black metal fans to see it as a too many people, too 'commerical', no closeness or intensity with bands playing from such a distance, and all the power/traditional metal bands can be a put off. But yeah now i've been i love it, and me and a friend have basically decided we live for Wacken and will go every year for eternity The whole atmosphere is fantastic, and like you said the drinking is good, the meeting people is good, it's all good.

I've never been to Wacken so I can't say I hate it, but for my first trip abroad to a festival, I figured Inferno was the better choice this time around.

Hopefully I'll be able to afford Wacken in a couple years. And maybe a couple years after that, Treffen. So many festivals, so little money.

If there are 10 bands you want to see on the line up, thats the equivalent of going to 10 different shows, how many times are there gigs where you live, when you can go to see 10 bands gigs you like, even within a year. I live in Bradford and if you get 10 good bands in a year you would be very lucky, if you live in a capital city, eg London, you get good bands every week. But those people are spoiled!!!

I agree with you completely. Sure, the names they do have are great, just the fact I'm getting to see Emperor makes me all giddy, but part of why I chose Inferno over Wacken was to find new music I haven't heard before.

Ok, that and the fact it's easier to stumble back to the hotel drunk at Inferno than catching a train at Wacken.

I'm in Seattle, we have zero metal scene here. I get to go to Oslo, hear a ton of great music, and bring it back for others to hear. And hopefully snap a frew great photos while I'm there as well.

I am totally with you on this one. I will most likely be back to many parts of Europe in next few years. I don't know how often I might get to Norway so I think this is a perfect opportunity for me. I like the variety of bands. What is a big band to someone is a no one to another person, you will never win. I just know that at all the fests I go to see, I keep an open mind as I usually come away with a bunch of bands that I become a big fan of after witnessing their killer live shows.

That's what people aren't happy about. Not enough of bands they do enjoy.
I think everyone was assuming the bands on 'the' lineup announcement would be as good (in their opinions) as the 6 announced before it.
I for one prefer the 6 bands before the announcement to the 30 or whatever after it. That's just me though.

I think we all had too high expectations because of the bands first announced.

I totally agree with alastair... All the bands that I want to see were in the 6 announced... (+Bloodthorn that have been announced soon in the forum). I was expected just one more big name (or just a band that I like) as headliner... But it was not the case... Bad luck...

But between the wacken and the inferno, I don't regret my choice. Wacken is a too big festival, too popular for me... And it's in germany... I highly prefer spend my week end in Oslo that everywhere else in Germany...

Amazing! Last July it was Black Metal sightseeing, this year actually seeing the people behind it! .

I know it's kinda out of place, but mentioning people...(hope this won't cause a wave of hate-talk and stuff)...Varg Vikernes will be out on probation in April. I guess he won't come around the Oslo area I guess ey? I imagine him being assoulted as soon as he steps out of Oslo S. Just a curiosity though...

Fucking hell...found out more! Nightrage features ex-Septic Flesh drummer Benardo and lindberd of At the Gates. And the Deviant features ex-members from Gehenna and Tsjuder!

Ops... Nightrage got another vocalist now called Jimmie Strimell. I didn't notice i put in an old lineup when i did their info last week. Sorry about that.

There are more "famous" people around in various bands in the lineup that you might or might not know about though. Like Marco Aro who used to be the vocalist in The Haunted in Face Down which is his "original band" that was put on ice for a few years when he was with The Haunted. Their latest album I Will to Power is very very good and worth checking out if you didn't already. It's currently one of the albums i listen the most to at least.
