If you're going to use public transport in oslo i.e tube, tram or bus..get your tickets from the local newsagents like narvesen, etc..cheaper than buying them on the bus or tram. But in central Oslo, you'll not need it. Litterally a 5 minute walk from the official hotel and right around the corner from Anker.

And the comment about getting raped in oslo is hilarious..Norwegian think Oslo is a bit unsafe..if you live anywhere else in the world, it can't even be described..having moved from Manchester to Oslo..gives you perspective.

Hello All!, Im traveling from Chile for the Inferno 2012!
I have booked the Hotel for the whole week so I will be just one week in Oslo and it will be my first time on Norway, so, here comes my questions.

There is some places on Oslo that I "must-see" on this visit?
I just have one place addressed so far ( The viking ship museum ).

There is a typical Norwegian food/drinks that I must try?
Any recomendation will be welcome, restaurants names or meal?

There is something that I must know?...
Dangerous places?
Nice bars?
Best way to get around the city(train,bus,taxi)?

Hows the weather on Oslo during April?.
Im sure its colder than a normal Spring here on my city ( in fact I have heard, April on Oslo is colder than the winter here ) but....usually rains during April?

Hi!

Walking in the city is always convenient, Oslo is not a big city compared to other eurpean capitals, so you can reach anyplace you want by foot in the city center. Bus can be useful to go to Bygdoy (place where there are some museums out of the city center). Never forget that public transportation in Oslo is incredibly expensive for a foreigner, so bring good shoes with you! :D

Of course no problem to join for some activities before/during/after the gigs! I guess we'll define a more precise way to get in touch there a few days before the festival, like setting up a meeting somewhere the day before the festival begins or something. :)

Hi, guys. Im brazilian, but living in UK.
Going alone to the festival and would like to meet some other people to hang out with. Probably going to stay at Anker Hostel, Storgata 55.
Also... I've never been to Oslo, so what kind os transport would be the best for moving around town?

Hello guys! Me and my friend are looking for a company to live with during the festival. We got a really nice offer on a cool 3 bedrooms apartment with 2 showers, kitchen and dining room, situated just 10 min. walk from the main venue. Though the price is a bit high for only two of us but if we'll find 4 ppl to join us the price for 5 nights (03.04-08.04) will be only 666 NOK per person. But even 2 ppl can help, then the price will be 1000 NOK per person. Pls contact me if interested! Horns up high! \m/

Hahahahaha, it seems we will be able to share some words in spanish on oslo.....thats great. I was thinking I would be trying to survive only with my poor english between all that vikings.

Indeed Anker hostel seems to be the best alternative to the Christiana hotel, Anker is close from all the main locations of the festival. :)

I'll probably rent a bed at the Anker Hostel too, it seems not so bad. And it's also quite affordable... though I have to admit that the Royal Christiania could be pretty nice and fun.

have you seen Anker Hostel ? i,m going from costa rica and i,m planning to go and to spend a great time in oslo maybe more days after the concert but not in the festival hotel, it is too expensive for me! Check this place and tell me what you think maybe we can meet in one of these hostel , !!

I'll probably rent a bed at the youth hostel. Low budget, cheap hotel haha :)

And I'm coming alone too! But I'll be in Scandinavia by the end of February, probably arrive in Oslo around April 3 or 4.

Last year I had a whalesteak in Bergen for something like 240NoK, but I never had one in Oslo, so I can't advise you any place...

I'm coming alone from Paris, I'll stay from the 3rd to the 8th at the Christiana hotel! What about you guys?

It sounds good to me, we all should keep on contact and maybe we can meet and do some tourism on the city and of course share some beers :D.

Do you know how much expensive could be a whalesteak, Im really curious about this kind of food :P?

It is indeed allowed to eat whale in Norway. It can be quite expensive to have a whale steak in a restaurant, but it is something to taste at least once in your life. Tasting red meat coming from sea is a great paradox!

@ArianaCadabra : for sure it will be fun to gather for a few cultural activities before enjoying the black arts, let's keep in touch!
