Hi all,

My name’s Dean Samways. I write for a music website called The Quietus. We’ve just posted an interview with the photographer Peter Beste who’s published a book called ‘True Norwegian Black Metal’. Some bands, Gorgoroth and Kalessin for example have about 20 photos each, while others, Sahg and Destruciton only have 3 each, or some varying number inbetween. I'm too picky, so I only put up what I think is worth sharing.

Also, please note... DO NOT click on the Gorgoroth photos link if you're at work. Crucified naked bodies are in the background of various shots. I hate for someone to get fired for looking at my photos.

The best concerts at Inferno 2008

Inferno is now over, and I just came home... Fucking cold outside...

Anyways, which bands were you most pleased with this year. Who delivered the best concerts?

Of those I attended, my favorites were Goat the Head, Benighted, Overkill and Destruction.

It's a real shame that so many had left when Destruction played. When Satyricon played you could barely cross the room, now you could set up a tent if you wanted to.

And the most disappointing concerts were Gorefest and Unleashed... Expected a bit more after listening to their studio albums...

Dette er de to banda jeg gleder meg mest til og se, i tilleg til Destruction og OverKill.

Onslaught er mine gode gamle thrash helter, og med det siste albumet Killing Peace, så gleder jeg meg virkelig til og se de live. Det er ikke ofte de kommer på Norges besøk, sist var vel i 89 tror jeg, forband for Motorhead.

Mortal Sin er bare helt kanon, jeg var redd dette bandet var død og begravet, men de lever i beste velgående. Albumet Faces of Despair er et av tidenes beste thrash/metal album, I am Immortal er jo helt enorm, dette blir gøy.

Takk for at disse er booket!

How long does each band play?

I've never been to this festival before, so when I had a look at the lineup again just now, I started wondering about the playing time for each band. Cor Scorpii is scheduled for 19:15 on John Dee, and Onslaught is scheduled for 19:45 on Rockefeller. Other people have told me that the John Dee/Rockefeller concerts don't overlap, so you actually have the chance of seeing one band on John Dee without missing the next on Rockefeller. However, if this is so, then Cor Scorpii can't be playing for long. I mean, you do need a couple of minutes to change venues and such as well. So how long do you think Cor Scorpii will be playing?

And later in the evening Goat The Head is scheduled for 22:15 on John Dee and Behemoth is scheduled for 23:00 on Rockefeller. After that, Cult Of Luna is scheduled for 24:00 on John Dee and Gorgoroth is scheduled for 01:00 on Rockefeller. So the time difference changes from 30 minutes to 45 minutes, and from 45 minutes to an hour. So how long will these bands be playing, then? Will these bands be playing longer, or do the earliest concerts in the evening overlap, while the later ones don't?

Questions about the club day

On the front page I read that some of the venues will require 20 years of age, while others will require only 18. I don't know too much about this festival, but what kind of bands will play on these clubs this day? Will the bands that play in these venues be well known bands, or will they be smaller ones? I guess the headliners will be in Rockefeller and Sentrum Scene, but will there be any bands playing in these two venues on the wednesday? Or is the wednesday a pure club day? The reason why I'm concerned is that I'm not yet 20, so I guess Maiden and Rock In will be a problem for me to enter.

The all-Norwegian documentary Once Upon a Time in Norway is beeing shown at IMX, Sentrum Scene. The documentary is focusing on the early years of Norwegian Black Metal, from the start of Mayhem to the infamous period of the early nineties. IMX movie time: Thursday at 16:00 and Friday at 15:00.

I have a question. it will be payed extra entrance, or f.e. users of inferno 4 days pass may just go there to see movie ? if anyone knows, please, share info :]

Other things to do in Norway?

I will arrive in Oslo with a friend early next week. The 18th of March we have completely free. I feel it would be a waste of a trip to Norway to spend the whole time in some filthy, overpriced, degenerate city, so I would like to go out to the wilderness (yeah, I'm one of those metalheads). Jotunheimen is my first choice but it seems rather far.. in excess of 300km each way if my estimates are correct! Can any Norwegians or semi-Norwegians offer any tips for places to go and how to get there?

Have any of you been able to apply yet?

All I see is that it is now closed, and then the 'Accreditation' link on the right gives old 2007 info. 'Now closed' gives the impression it's been open for the 2008 fest already and I never saw it open, and I check almost daily.

If I missed it, ok, but if not, it would be nice for a 'coming soon' or something.

In Oslo I payd 8 euros for a pint,even in supermarket or mall beer was expensive... Help me please because I don't wanna drink water for 4 days!!! Where I can find a blonde without destroy my pocket? I red onecan take 3 litres of superalcoolics (gin,whskey or bourbon)in the bag.

And what about the police? Is it allowed to drink in the streets,obviously without seem too damn drunk?

I purchased my early bird ticket for the IMC a while back, because I really wanted to see the discussion (Tom G., Maniac and Gaahl) and interview (Gaahl) on the friday, but now I've learned that this day will be free as part of the IMX.

So I just wanted to vent my annoyance with this, and ask that in the future, such details are specified from the beginning.
