Yes, but what they can't take into account unless you tell them, is that maybe you can walk this distance that fast BECAUSE you walk it every day, and have probably been walking tours in the mountains sice you were a little kid. In Germany I was always counted as a quick walker, but here I have had the humiliating experience of walking up a hill as fast as I can, and being overtaken by someone pushing a stroller while talking on the phone.

Whoa, I had no idea there would be such big differences. From what you're saying, I guess one should add some minutes. But it makes little difference if you have walked the distance many times before, as long as you know where it is. If you don't know where it is, though, you should add several minutes - or walk the distance once before the festival starts, so you know where the place is.

It´s a wee bit longer than a COUPLE of minutes - no matter how fast you walk... Walking at a reasonable speed, it should take you (unless you get lost) about 10-15 minutes. When sober. If you´re tipsy, add another 15 minutes for pissing and wrong turns.

When I write "a couple of minutes", I don't mean 120 seconds, and when I write "quick walking", I really mean it to be quick. I guess you've been to Blå since you're working with all this, but if the distance is 10-15 minutes of normal, sober walking, then there's gotta be something wrong with the map! The time I use to get from the central station to Rockefeller/John Dee is nowhere near 10 minutes, and that's with my normal speed (i.e. not a quick walk).

I have another comparison as well. Right next to the Garage venue needle on the map, you find the intersection between Grensen and Akersgata. And a few streets above the Scandic Edderkoppen hotel needle on the map, you find Frimanns gate, which forms a T-junction with Ullevålsveien. I walk the distance between said intersection and T-junction each day, five days a week. At fairly normal speed I use 5 minutes on that distance!!

The map shows that this distance is longer than the distance between Rockefeller/John Dee and Blå. So if the distance between Rockefeller/John Dee and Blå is 10-15 minutes of normal walking, there's got to be something wrong with the map!

But yes, you should add some minutes if you have a bad sense of directions and do not know the area. You should also add some minutes if you're tipsy, or if you're talking to people while walking. Yet I think people are smart enough to figure this out themselves.

So if the map is correct, I think you're exaggerating. If the map is not correct, however, you may very well be right. I'm not going to contradict you.

Alastair: Check the map and find the intersection and T-junction I was talking about. I do in fact walk that distance each day, five times a week, and I am never late!

And in any case, we're better than the French! The French neither know distance nor directions - at lest not the ones I've asked. Each time I go to France (I've actually been there quite some times) I have this problem. If I ask one person on the street, I get the answer "300 meters to your right" while the next person may answer "500 meters to your left". So the French are of no help when it comes to maps and directions. When I end up finding the place myself, I realise the correct answer would've been "400 meters straight ahead" or "200 meters behind you". So you should be grateful that this is not a French festival.

Those fuckin "few minute walks" piss me off! It's not that Norwegians are speedier, they just seem to always under-estimate the times taken to get places! Doesn't make help matters when it's friggin' cold.

I'll be running my *** off after Sahg to catch Kalessin. Hell, I may even skip out a little early from Sahg. Gallhammer was going to be almost impossible to catch, but Kalessin going on at 11:30pm hopefully will be doable.

Anyone know how long it takes to get from Blå to John Dee on foot??

There is no extra cost. It's all part of the Inferno Club Day and included in the 4 day pass and club pass.

not that it bothers me at all that extra bands were added to the line-up , but just one question if anyone would know : does this Indie Festival @ John Dee have an extra cost ? or can you attend simply with the 4day Inferno Pass ?

Keep of Kalessin, Red Harvest and Audrey Horne have been added to the Indie Recordings label-night (John Dee at the club day Wednesday). The running order is now:

Audrey Horne
Red Harvest
In Vain
Vreid
Keep of Kalessin

I was already annoyed about Gallhammer, Urgehal and Negură Bunget playing at the same time, and now they throw Keep of Kalessin in there too?!

At least there's ample time for both Red Harvest and one of the 23.30 bands

Hej!

I've never been to Oslo (I'm from Canada...) and I have no idea where the club are. But I really want to see : Cor Scorpii (20.30 SubScene), VREID (TBA, John Dee) and Negurá Bunget (23.30, Maiden) on the Wednesday.
Will it be possible to do that?!

If there is other crazy dude who wants to join me, your are most than welcome!

I've never been into Drone myself but the split Sunn O))) did with Boris was very cool. The Angelic Process are very cool too, a bit more ambient than straight up drone tho'.

I've heard 'Black One', and I'm not too impressed. It's not bad, but it's incredibly boring in more than a small dose. I'd imagine things change as far as a live setting goes - they played here in Galway not so long ago, but I couldn't go because of work (worked nights back then). Plus Justin K. Broadrick from Godflesh/Jesu played with them on that tour. Missing that was lame!

Hey Midnyte, but you still have all those great Sourthern Lord bands, haven't you? Sunn plays every half a year in seatlle if I gues right hm?

There's still something aboutr the Club day, I like it, that one more festival-day only costs about 5 Euros more, but still one thing I really liked at Inferno was, that, If you wanted to, you could see every band playing the Festival...

Ah, I see. I've heard that LA's not great; won't be visiting there if I ever go to the States! I don't care much for hot weather myself, either. I guess you have it a bit better than you did, then - certainly better than Galway at least! I suppose just once you're happy, that's the main thing.

Actually I grew up outside of Los Angeles and moved to Seattle back in 1993.

I really don't like Los Angeles, I hate all the sun and hot weather, the average individual is rude, and well, the places I grew up, if you walk a block without looking over your shoulder, you're asking for trouble. The music scene is not worth the hell I'd be living if I was still there.

Sure, the neighborhood I live in is a little dodgy, lots of homeless and druggies, but it's not bad, at least for what I was used to in Cali. And hey, my apartment is across the street from the college I work at, and a few blocks from most of the stuff I need.

Our metal scene isn't too bad. We have a couple crappy clubs that get alot of the shows, the El Corazon is one. HATE HATE HATE that place, but I'm having to deal with it to see Rotting Christ next month. We do have a few really great local bands that I love, Inquinok and Ceremonial Castings are two of them. The only downside of Seattle is that bands have a tendency to skip us.

Again, I find that rather perplexing: why wouldn't bands go to some of the biggest cities in the US and Canada?! And as you said, they're all within a few hours drive of each other, that has to be a few pennies earned! I think Rush played there recently, though. But that's a bit of a pity all the same.

Can I ask ye (kinda personal question): howcum you like Seattle so much? I mean, if there's more metal in an area you like nearby enough, why not go there?! I ask because one of my BIG gripes with Galway (born and raised here, probs the same as you and Seattle) is the entire lack of a music scene of any kind (bar a few punk shows in Sally Long's pub, which isn't the pub it used to be i.e now filled with posers!); not to mention the profuse dependence on said establishments of ilk for entertainment, which is quite problematic when you're fucking teetotal! I hear Seattle's a dodgy spot when it comes to drug culture, too. Although where isn't, I guess....

Seattle is a big city, and it's spawned some great music (Jimi Hendrix anyone?), but it's getting pretty popular for a band to go from Minnesota straight to California, or hitting Nevada and Colorado and then Cali, completely bypassing the Pacific Northwest. Even Canadian tours don't always reach Vancouver.

I can't remember the last time Dark Funeral actually played in Seattle, they've had like three tours in the last year or so, and not one has come near Seattle. I was lucky I was in Minnesota for the week before Heathen Crusade last year so I could catch the Dark Funeral / Enslaved show, because that night they were on the road to Sacramento, California.

It's expensive to drive cross country with the cost of petrol being so high these days, and some bands just cannot afford it. It sucks. I always try to buy at least a shirt, if not a shirt and CD at touring shows so they have a little extra for gas and food while on tour.

At least we didn't get skipped by Finntroll or the upcoming PaganFest tour with Ensiferum. Still bummed the Catamenia tour got cancelled though.

Well I certainly stand corrected there! It takes four hours to get to Dublin sometimes aswell (the roads are shit here), but I see your dilemma. I thought that Seattle being such a big city and all and the home of Nevermore (and some other shit band whose name also begins with the letter 'n'!) would get a big slice of pie. Didn't know Gorgoroth were banned from the US either, doesn't that suck! Not like the US is crime free, is it?!

Well, at least your getting to see them at long last. I'm sure you'll have a blast at it, darling!!

There is no subway in Seattle.

And Seattle gets skipped a heck of alot, and sometimes Vancouver, BC and Portland, Oregon does too. So, that means the closest is California, which is two states away. If someone was to drive it, it would take two days straight through, or $200 for a flight.

Even if I'm going to Portland for a show (like I will to see Kalessin in April), that's still a 4 hour drive, without traffic. Your 3 hour bus ride beats that.

We are a VERY BIG country, and some bands only play the East Coast. When Immortal and Emperor did their mini-tours, they only played New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. No way I could afford that.

And there are bands that can play all over Europe but either can't afford to come all the way to the US, or can't get in due to their criminal record, Gorgoroth is a prime example, hence why I am so very excited to finally get to see them.

If I lived in California or New York, I would probably get to see a few more shows, but I don't want to live there, I like Seattle just fine. Those in Europe are absolutely spoiled with the amount of tours and fests that are available and are a bit easier to get to than flying across the Atlantic Ocean each time.

So very jealous.

And unfortunately, Bale, I won't be able to make it over to Britain before the festival. Yes, it may only be £10-12 for a ticket, but that's nothing compared to having to take precious time off work (need it for Inferno!), paying about £80 for flights and another £100-odd spending money. Nice idea, though!

And surely you guys in the U.S. get a lot of shows, Midnyte?!? Or if not, at least you only have to get the subway into town to go - I have to travel 3 hours on the bus to Dublin!

Runespawn: If you can afford it try and get over to England the week before the festival, Gallhammer are doing a 6 date tour of the country, including London, Birmingham and Glasgow and the tickets are pretty cheap (£10-12), that way there's no qualms of skipping that at Inferno.

I think you should be able to catch both Vreid and one of the other 2... That's not a total disaster at least.

Lol! Well, it's certainly reassuring to know that -some- orginizers take some responibility instead of blaming it on anyone and everyone else! You guys did a good job, but putting a handful of the festival highlights on the club day and in separate venues is a bit shit for those who want to see all of these bands. Like I mentioned in another post, I've seen a lot of the acts at LEAST once already (and in the case of Destruction, no less than five times) and Gallhammer, Negura Bunget and Vreid would've helped ease the hurt.

Oh well, I'm going to have a good time and a good time I'm sure I'll have. Keep up the good work, Lars!

Sure, we've always had tochoose where togo/who to seein the past, but at least for the last two years there weren't bands like Gallhammer, Vreid, Sahg, Urgehaland Negura Bunget all going up against each other at competing locations.

Blå is a bit off route yes, but it's not too far from John Dee/Rockefeller and those 2 are the ones that start the earliest. This is of course intentional. Maiden is just a few blocks from Rock In. Takes tops 5 mins to walk.

3 clubs would most likely not be enough when it comes to capacity. And if it was 3 clubs then you'd have to choose between the clubs for sure. The ability to walk around from one place to another would more or less be lost due to each club being packed and all of the bands playing at the same time.

In some sort of strange way it's a good thing that you people complain about not being able to see everything you want at Wednesday. When we announced the club day there were quite a few(mostly Norwegians) complaining that we were hijacking all the nice concerts going on on Wednesday and ruining that day. I guess the complaints mean that we haven't made it totally worthless at least.

The club day seems to be a sort of experiment for now, and whatever doesn't work will be changed for the next year, right?
It's a nice idea. And I like the thought of the metalheads spreading out and taking over the whole city, if only for a day.

That's exactly the point with a Club Day. You guys seem to be new to the idea of a Club Day. It's something quite common around Europe, pre-festivals and all. Don't complain....
