Thats true. I saw Decapitated at Inferno and thought they were awesome, then they played Seattle a couple of years ago and they suffered the bad sound syndrome and then I just saw them a few months ago, back in Seattle and they fucking crushed.

And I agree the sound at the Rockefeller is stellar and crystal clear. My Dying Bride and Sadus were major highlights for me in '04

Hmm... I think its a bit unfair to talk down about a bands live act becuse fo the sound quality, after all I've seen to awful live acts with great sound (Nile, Wykkid Wytch, Dam... the list goes on) and some great live acts with terrible sound (The Axis of Perdition, Sonata Arctica, Decapitated... well last time I saw them... etc.) ultimately its not the bands fault if their engineer screws up.

Then again that'll probably never happen at Inferno, the sound was perfect for everyone I saw last year, Including Emperor (who were incredible).

I know sound quality does suck sometime at open air, like Sodom at Wacken a few years back, they SUCKED so bad, but Kreator sounded perfect and Motorhead too! Oh and I cannot forget one of my all time fave bands EVER ROTTING CHRIST, they played a shitty little oven (tent) called the Party Stage at Wacken and were AMAzING.

Yeah I think I fell asleep with my head on David's shoulder. I'm not sure how much I missed.. A few songs, at least. After that I stood up and was able to stay awake.

LOL, dont get me wrong, I love Emperor in Studio, they didnt do much for me live, though the DVD they released is quite good. I saw them at Dynamo 98.... Immortal and Enslaved blew Emperor away.

Well. I come 10, 000 miles away so seeing bands I would not probably ever see is real nice. I saw Gorgoroth in 2004 at Inferno and thought they were killer. Unlike one of the most boring live bands ever- EMPEROR. *yawns*

I wish Gorgoroth were playing though.

I don't, they're one of the most boring live acts I've ever seen TBH. Infurnus and Ghaal just sands still and have King hold up the entire show... and even then they make no attempt to acknowledge the audience or each other, they just arrive, play their instruments, leave (except king, he's a lunatic onstage). When I saw them in London 1349 were supporting and easily stole the show.

In retrospect I'm not that dissapointed (although I think its a bit more Death Metal than I'd have liked... USDM at that), it'll be better on the day(s) anyway, everyone pulls out all the stops for Inferno. Besides Im probably not going to see DHG or Paradigma elsewhere either... and the Norwegian Metal Allstars will be a laugh

Now next year they should book the Japanese Sabbat... just because they're crazy and sound like what Venom should sound like these days.

But having Arcturus on the bill is pointless... every other band would be pale in comparison (they are hands down the best live act I've ever encountered).

I have to agree, there. 1349 blew the socks off Gorgoroth the last time they played; only Gaahl's stage presence saved them from becomming laughing stock. Even though the only thing he'd say between the songs were the song titles and he sounded bored doing that, not to mention Infernus' infatuation with his boots! They really paled in comparisson. Gaahl came out to Bruxelles for a Guinness and signed my ticket, so that was cool. He's quite normal, actually, and unlike a certain bassist/vocalist of a certain death metal band who went AWOL on the current tour, he was more than happy to discuss the Black Arts and his brushes with the law.

All in all, it probably didn't help that I like 1349 that little bit more (they were also cool; they gave me picks!) and what the hell happened to Archaon's hair?!

This is very true!!!! I saw Metal Lucifer at Wacken, Defiled at Inferno 04 and Abigail here in Seattle in 03 and who knows if I will ever see them again either! I would like to see King's Evil, the japanese thrash band!! they shred.

I'm really happy about the lineup!! Healthy mix of known and unkown bands. I'm really looking forward to Suffocation and Sigh, apart from the obvious Immortal. Zyklon, Sodom and Sabbat are a nice touch though!

I'll join you in having a bowl of meh soup, Baletempest; quite hit and miss. That which is hit is bullseye (Immortal, Watain, Primordial, Sigh (really looking forward to them!), Zyklon, Dark Funeral) and that which is miss is a bloke trying to aim pee into the toilet after 10 pints of Guinness (God Dethroned, Hectate Enthroned, possibly a lot of those bands I've never heard of). But hey, I have my ticket and I'm going to have fun (I think).

And Sodom? No offence to the guys - I've had the honour of meeting the super-cool Tom Angelripper - but when I saw them last September in Dublin they were pale in comparison to Ensiferum, who flushed them off the stage, and they're playing the Night To Remember slot at Wacken this year and I don't really think they deserve it (or at least not as much as Destruction). I like to see bands at festivals that I haven't seen before and am going to see again at other festivals, dammit!

I like to drink and have been to Inferno two times before and KNOW how expensive beer and booze is there, so I had to limit my stay to 4 nights/5 days in Norway.
